GRE Frequently Asked Questions

The GRE® revised General Test is the only admissions test that is accepted by both graduate and business programs worldwide. Scores are valid for five years. So, even if you don't know your direction now, you have time to explore and decide.

A GRE® appointment costs USD 205. At the time of taking the test, the test takers can select up to 4 schools/programs to receive their scores. This facility is part of the USD 205 fee that is charged for the test. See www.gre.org to book your appointment. In case you have cancelled your score on exam-day, you can reinstate it within 60 days by paying an additional charge of USD 50.

GRE® can be taken 5 times in a calendar year and the duration between 2 attempts should be a minimum of 21 calendar days.

Your GRE® score will be valid for 5 years from the date the test was taken.

You will see your score for the math and verbal sections the moment you finish the exam but official scores (with scores for AWA) will take about 7-10 days to reach you.

On the day you take the GRE® exam, but before you begin, you may select up to four (4) GRE accepting programs to receive your Official Score Report. If you did not select any GRE® programs to receive your scores on the day of your exam, or if you would like to send your scores to more than the four (4) programs you selected on your test day, you may order Additional Score Reports to be sent to schools online, by phone, by fax, or by mail for a fee of USD 27. When you order an Additional Score Report to be sent to a school, you will also receive a copy.

While sending Additional Score Reports to universities, you can choose the scores that you want the universities to receive.

If the test registration is cancelled till 4 days ahead of the test, 50% of the fees will be refunded. After that, there will be no refunds. So, it's advisable for students to reschedule rather to cancel.

The test date and the test center can be changed till 4 days ahead of the test date by paying a fee of USD 50.

It is one of the various criteria that the admission council looks at. However, a good GRE® score does improve your chances of getting admission and financial aid.In addition to the General GRE®, some PhD programs in the US may also require you to take the GRE® Subject test.
